Debate Format 

BothSides debates are brief events, with each typically taking about 70 minutes, taking the following format: 

  • Introduction of the topic/online spot opinion poll  to determine their initial audience opinion on the topic - 5 minutes
  • Introduction of the debaters - 5 minutes 
  • Moment for BothSides partners - 3 minutes
  • First debater - 12 minutes
  • Second debater - 12 minutes + 3 minutes rebuttal 
  • First debater - 3 minutes rebuttal  
  • Moment for BothSides partners - 3 minutes
  • Q&A and comments from participants - 10 minutes.  
  • A spot online poll after the Q&A to check which debater has swayed the audience's opinion from the baseline - 5 minutes
  • Raffle moment - 3 minutes
  • Vote of thanks - 5 minutes
